AIRY DESCRIPTION OF SYDNEY. SYDtfEY, Feb. 17. Prior to the meeting last night Dowie atkJressed a gathering. Referring, to the jnevious night's disturbance, he described Sydney as a "pull putt" city, far worse than Chicago, but he would rather dw than giro up his mission. Five thousand participated in the j demonstration at the Hotel Australia, the majority being youths. The crowd was good-huniounxi, and kept up a swelling chorus of "Prophet, cotne forth," <iiwi "Where Is Elijah?" It took 00 to clear the street. Dowie took refuge at another hotel, but as there were signs of further demonstration be wvnt to Coogee, and returned to his hotel at a late hour. LAST NIUUT'S MEETING. AN EXCITING TIME—AND AN ARREST. (Received Feb. IS, 0.59 a.m.) SYDNEY, Fab. 17. "Doctor" Dowie's meetings continue to provide much excitement. His general denunciation of non-Zionists, and his autocratic manner of dealing with opponents, coupled with his peculiar prophetic claims are strongly resented. Powie asserts that the disturbances weiv the outcome of a weft-organised plan. The police force wtw largely augmented for tcMi-ight's Town Hall meetings. The hall was tilled, and a croud, numbering several thousand person, g*ood-liuin o u red 1 y singling and shouting, gathered outside the huiWiug. Up to a certain stage, with the assistance of the police by removing interrupters, things went fairly well. Then a certain member of the House of Assembly wanted to take a hand. The Rev, Wilbur Voli▼da, Dowie'a gtesneral overseer for AutftraHa, tried to reason with him, and trouble ensued, ending in. the member giving Volivia in charge for using threatening language. The meeting broke up in wild disorder, the crowd giving vent* to their keen disappointment at not finding Dowie, who got quickly away and made his way to his hotel. The pohce, however, prevented A repetition of last night's demonstration, and the crowd quickly dispersed.
