A severe hailstorm passed over Tlniiaru on Sunday, doing considerable •damage. Hailstorms the size, of lven's eggs fell and penetrated galvanised, iron roofs, cut the heads of grain off, and destroyed fruit. Cattle were terrified and rushed wildly about the paddocks. Windows of houses were broken and a man was struck on the head by a hailstone and rendered unconscious.
A meeting of the New Plymouth Church Council was held last night. Rev. !■'. A. Dennett delivered his report on tine.recent Students' Summer School. Operations at tho State coalmines in Wostland are being! carried out on an extensive scale. The colliery at Sodd-onville is putting out about 1000 tons a week. The weekly output from the Port Elizabeth mine is uljout 2000 tans, and will be increased 50 per cent, as soon as the raiiway into Greymouth has been completed. The Manes Department lias solid 1000 tons of coal from Seddonville to tlie Itmilway Department atml also a considerable quantity to the Union Steam Ship Company.
