It appears tihlat he was practising for the chopping events to he competed for at the forthcoming, sports, when the axe slipped and cut his foot open from the toe to the instep. He was at once conveyed to the hospital at New Plymouth by Mi Hudson. The loss of his assistance will lie greatly felt by the sports committee, as he wan one of its most active worKere. Tt is sincerely hoped by all here that he will 1)0 so far recovered as to be able to attend the sports on April 1-1. A meeting of the sports committee was 'held at tiie school on Saturday evening last, when sub-committees were appointed to cany out the programme. ■ The qiiestion of having a dance at Okato as. will as a concert was held over till the next meeting of the committee, which will be held during rbe present week. The weather appears to have broken, and we are now enjoying genial showers. We have had splendid bush burns in this part of the district, and bush settlers are looking happier in consequence. Anyone who did not get a good burn this year has only himself to blame, as the weather has been all that could be desired.
