Savieri Dramatic Co.
Last night the Savieii Drainatic Co. appeared in the Theatre lloyal, pro|d|ucing for the fust lime in New Plymouth the powerful ami emotional drama, "A Brother's Crime." The piece was faithfully interpreted, and some of the scenes were excellent. Tl»» principal jijarts were those of Naomi and Simeon Lazarus, taken by Miss Betterton-Clover and Mr J'eter Savieri respectively. The former had some very trying and dillicult parts, but played them to perfection. Mr Snvieri acted the wily Jew to the nature bowi, h>» wit,licit>ms causo'i'' roars of laughter. ,Tack Cllynd-on (Mr Paul Clilford) earned the uppiohiium of the audience, for his too lifelike ant-hug of the polished villain, and his half-brother, Harry (ilyiidon. was represented by Mr Basil Lootf. who wan perfii.itly lit home In all the dfliiciil't situations In which L"ie hero was placid. Jlr James H. Martin depkud the stern, irate parent, and afterwards the forgiving lather, in a manner that left no room for criticism. Ned (Miss Ethel C'i'bson) wiui a capital poui'traynl of the affection of a rescued boy for his helper, and his sad end was so realistic as to keep the, audience in silence fos soi»t> minutes after the close ot that " scene. The drama was good, though there was nuth'i'ng new in ttic plot, anlil the ucting capital throughout. The iinale was good, love and justice scoring a triumph over the malicious scheming of'the villain. To-night "'flip tluv'nor" will he staged, and those who want .-a good hearty laugh should not fail to see this sparkling comedy.
