Sir,—Being present at the meeting ! on Boxing Day and concluding day of the above club, I am sorry to . hia,ve noticed so little interest taken > in it by the separate officials in their . different duties, the work seemingly being placed on the shoulders of two or three. We have here the Met- , ropoliton Club of the Taranaki district, who have pretty well the sole control of all the pther clubs in their district and whose duty It is to set an example to the minor clubs in the way to carry out matters pertaining to conducting their separate meetings in the true way of sport ; but I am sorry to say tliat at tho" meeting just field they have failed in what was allotted to them. On the first day it was remarked by different visitors that the time had arrived when a stipendiary steward should be amongst the officials to closely watch matters in the interests of the sporting public , as on that day things were not too 'bright. But as the second day's proceedings were being carried through, the djb/ove opinion was more openly disdU'ssod. In the second hurdle race a more glaringpiece of "having" the public could wot have been witnessed on any course. An inquiry was held and adjourned. In the next race a simi- . lar scene was witnessed. An inquiry was again held and the fockey'a explanation being satisfactory to the stewards they were let go. Why tho difference, when both acts committed were for the one and same purpose, viz., to take down those who in igood faith trusted the different horses and riders to get an honest race. At the adjourned meeting of the stewards O'Connell, ti«j rider of Moturoa, was disnuali fied for two years for pulling—a decision which no doubt will be favouraibly received bv the pu'bfiic-and yet in the other ■ race which 1 have mentioned a . thing equally as glaring happened . and optically speaking noTotke I JWtftkW QHt. I trust that in the , future we may see those who pcrpet- 1 rate these acts wiped out, and thro ' s Wthy of the Ruhlic will be ) with those clubs who cany out the etrkt letter of racing faws.-I «£ LOVER OF TRUE iSPORT. ]
