• A representative of a large American hemp tirm recently informed the Waimate Witness that his employers were prepared to enter into contracts to buy the whole of the New Zealand output for the next five years. He was just returning from a visit to t!i« VVaiknto, where he stated ho had bought all fclte flax land that co.ulVl be secured, paying- from £5 to £lO per acre for land which had up to a year or so back been considered, owing to its swampy nature, to be almost worthless. Ho anticipates tlwt the saiue fl« land will tw worn £29 p W acre before long.
