Borough Council.
The Council met on Monday. Present—His Worship tli-e Mayior (Mr R. Cock), Crs. Wood, fk'llringvr, Collis, Carter, Tiscli, Edmunds, and Medley! It was decided to obtain necessary gates to place on Mr H. King's property at the intake works.
A petition; from residents in Leeohstreet asking that the roadway be formed from Grey-street to Cameronstreet was referred to the Works Committee.
Messrs Me.lpnp, McVeagh, and Anderson presented a claim on behalf of J. H. Colesby for £125 for supply of boulders.—The 'En®inet>r stated the position, and a committee consisting ol' the Mayor and Crs. Brooking Wood, a ltd Tisch was appointed to enquire fully into the matter. W. Armstrong wrote in reference to lencing at the steps leading down to the beach under the railway,—Referred to Cr. Carter, Messrs Booth, Maodonald and Co., Chi istchurch, wrote forwarding prices of a _ bell-tower—Deferred, pending consultation with the Fire Brigade. F. Basfhani, assistant engineer, applied for an increase of /salary,' and asked how long his appointment might be expected to last.-Referred to the Finance Committee,
M. Stewart, electrician, waited pn the Coundl, ntid suggiestpd that as he was gping Home tp order other machinery he might order the New Plymouth plant, and see it tested etc.—it was pointed out that the Council ■ had made arrangements for calling tenders. The conditions of the resolution passed by the Harbour Board at its last meeting relative to Gill-street were agreed to.
The butchers wrote in reference to the staff, etc., proposed in connection with the abattoirs,
Cr. Bell ringer challenged a statement made In the letter that thf staff was inadequate. Three slaugh-ter-men would be ample to cope with the work.
It was decided to- adhere to tho decision already come to.
J. C. Montefiore wrote offering to remove earth from Standisli Hill at 6{d per yard.—Accepted, for 200 yds. It was decided to grant permission to Mr G. W. Henderson to erect certain hoardings.
l'\ M. Grayling's tender for erection of yards and races at the abattoirs, for £227 9s 3d, wajs accepted
Votes of thanks wore accorded to the Garrison Town Hands for their services at the opening of the saltwater baths East End bathineshed.
