The Abattoirs.

The committee appointed to report on the abattoir staff recommended to the Borough Council on Monday night :

Bellringer moved the adoption of the report, laying great stress on the"cte4iraiMl|ily of j erecting the iio-s-idences, as a 'great saving and as a convenience 'in keeping the staff near their work.

Cr. Brooking seconded, strongly supporting the views of Cr. Bellringer. It would pay the Council much better to build houses than to grant a house allowance. Cr. Carter asked if it were known whether this was all bhat would be required to complete the abattoirs. Treating the offal should be considered before asking the money from the Government. The report was adopted, and the matter of disposing of the offal will be brought up at a future date., It was decided that the question of framing conditions for positions on abattoir staff be referred to the Works Committee, the posts to be advertised and the applications to be in by ne,xt meeting.
