Mails will close at the Chief Post Office, Devon Street, as follows : For "Wellington and South, daily, per £xpress, at 6.30 a.m. Late fee (mail van), at 7.25 a.m, FRIDAY, De«. 11. Far Australian States, etc., at 8.30 a.m., due Sydney Dec. IS. For Auckland and North, per Rarawa, at 7 p.m. SATURDAY, Dec. 12. For Auekland and North, per Takopuon, at 7 p.m. For Australian States, etc., at 7 p.m., due Sydney Dec. 19. For Ceylon, India, China, Japan, Straits Settlement, also Continent of Europe and United Kingdom, via Suez (for correspondence specially addressed only), at 7 p.m., dun London Jan. 24. For South Africa, per Suevic, from Melbourne, at 7 p.m., due Durban about Jan. 18. Mails for Fiji close at Auckland, Dec- !«■ Mails for R'aratonga and Tahiti also Penrhyn Islands, close at Auckland on Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. Mails for United Kingdom and Continent of Europe, via Las Palinas (Canary Islands) close at Auckland about Dec. 7 (correspondence to be specialty addressed per Marere). * On and after Dec. 1 a darly mail, closing ut i2..;(j p.m., will be despatched for tlie fallowing offices : Waithra, Inglcwood, Tariki, Stratford, Elthnin, Hawera, Patea, Wanganui and South.
Note.—The public are again reminded that Christmas Cards should be posted in covers entirely open at one end or both ends in open envelopes, with the flap turned inside. If the covers are not suflicientlv open, tin; articles, if addressed to places within New Zealand, are taxed the deficiency at letter rates of postage, and forwarded to destination ; but if addressed to places beyond the colony they are detained and sent to the Dead Latter Office Wellington.
