Benevolence of Snobbery.

(Christohurcli Truth..) At a luncheon at Wellington on Sunday, a foreign ecclesiastic intimated his desire for funds for the establishment of on orphanage in Eastern Korea, of all places on earth, and sundry enthu si astir gentlemen, in less than five minutes, subscribed £*.oo. The telegram which conveys this interesting (and astonishing), information does not say whether the champagne was extra dry, or the luncheon particularly delectable, or whether the gentlemen who displayed this sudden liberality was merely carried away by the brilliancy of the idea of an orphanage in Eastern Korea. It never struck any of the opulent and benevolent gentlemen that there are plenty of charitable institutions nearer home which would be glad of their £IOO. They, apparently, have 'quite overlooked the fact that that '£loo would be very valuable in connection with the establishment of a Home for Foundling Children in the colony tlvey made the money in. But, of course, 110 foundling institution has had the distinguished honour of being canvassed for by an aristocratic Hungarian Count. We fear that champagne and .snobbery hud a great deal more to do with the donation of that £IOO t'han any regard for the orphans of Korea. .
