Athenic from Wellington has been postponed until Saturday, 12th December. H.M.s. Psyche and Mutine have passed Thursday Island, to relieve the Archer and Karrakatta, which sailed" for Engtand on Sunday. v The number and tonnage of British vessels respecting whose loss reports were received at the Board of Trade during the month of September, and the number of lives lost, were as follows :—Sailing vessels 52, with 683 tons and 101 lives ; steamers 16, with 4955 tons and 18 lives. The troopships Diadem and Scylla, with relief crews Tor the Australian Mqlawlroii, have arrived at Sydney. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Paparoa, which sailed from Plymouth on November 9th for Wellington, arrived at Capetown on Tuesday last. Mr James Dunlop, late chief engineer of the Waikare, and formerly of the ill-fated' steamer Wairarapa, is on the way to London to superintend the construction of the machinery in the Union Company's new turbine steamer being built for the Melbourne-Launceston trade.
The Ka.ra.wa left Onehuoga; at 4.2t) yesterday afternoon for New Plymouth. An inquiry is to be held at Wellington into the circumstances connected with the grounding of the new dredge Kubi Seddon in the Red Sea during the voyage out from Scotland.
The Union Company's steamer Moura is to relieve the Taviuni in the Island trade. The Taviuni will sail from Fiji qn Dec. 10, and on arrival in New Zealand will be laid up for an overhaul. The Rot.okino will not sail from Auckland for the Islands until next Tuesday. Bad weather has persistently pursued the barquentine Frank Guy, now at Tiniaru, /or the past six Months. Until her arrival in Tiniaru on Friday last, the crew of the vessel do not remember experiencing three continuous fine days since the little port of Whangarei (North Island) was left —over six months ago. Since then the baijquentine has been lo Sydney, Warrnambool, Lyttelton, Esperance Bay, and Hobart and Clarence River, and at each of these ports, and during the voyage to and from them, rain was. with rare intervals only, always falling. The ship Blenheim, which has been a constant trader between New Zealand and Ijondon for many years past, has been sold to Swedish owners for £3900. The Blenheim is an iron vessel and was built at Glasgow in 1877. Her principal dimensions are—length, 215.3 feet : depth, 20.4 feet ; breadth, 34 feet : tonnace 1186. The Union Company's steamer Hawea is to lay up until January next on arrival at Port Chalmers from Auckland next month. The TaVanaki Freezing Works Co.rThe s.s. Athentic will be the next steamer for dairy procuce, leaving Wellington on Dec. 10th, and will T>e followed by the s.s. Himutaka on Dec. 24th.
