ENGLAND v. QUEENSLAND

COLLAPSE OF THE COLONIALS

Received 29, 10 a.m. BRISBANE, Nov. 28.

On tire match being resumed the Englishmen' continued their first innings, which ended for 215 runs, or 27 behind the first innings of their opponents. The Queensland fielding l was good, and Byrne bowled with excellent judgment, while Crouch got rid of Bosantpiet by two excellent catches on the boundary. Knight scored with great rapidity, treating all the bowling alike. Several of the batsmen played Byrne in evident discomfort. Strudwick's innings was a short, merry one, the batsman knocking up his seventeen by three fours and a five off successive balls. The disposal of the Englishmen for a smaller total than the local men bad scored evoked immense enthusiasm, but the enjoyment was sbort-lived. The opening of the second innings put iquite a different complexion on affairs. The first tnree wickets went down for 16 runs, and subsequently Arnold sent down 10 maidens in succession. With five wickets down for 29 the game looked none too promising for Queensland. Evans and Crouch took the total on to 59, the former making occasional vigorous strokes. The seventh wicket fell at 63, and with it Queensland's fond hopes. Foster joined Crouch, and improved matters slightly. The latter, who had been batting most cautiously, reached double figures after being 65 minutes at the wickets. Foster's 20 ocpied him 36 minutes, and he lost bis wicket in attempting to pull one from Arnold. Byrne went out just on the call of time. Scores : ENGLAND.—First Innings.
