Volunteer News.

EIFLE MATCH AT TAR ATA. A team from the Taranaki Rifles journeyed to Tarata on Thursday, and met tne representatives of the local rifle club in a friendly match. The weather wag fine for the first range, but the succeeding two were fired partly in heavy rain, with a fish-tail wind. The visitors won by the narrow margin of five points. They were well treated by the home men, and in spite of a drenching enjoyed the outing. Scores were : TARANAKI RIFLES.

Grand Total 798 TAIIANAKI RIFLE SHOOTING UNION. A meeting- of the Taranaki Rifle Shooting Union was held in the old Masonic Hall- on Wednesday night. There were representatives from the Taranaki Rifles and Guards, thre Battalion Staff and the local corps. Minutes ol the annual uiejung! were read, and the report and balancesheet were brought down and adopted. ' Lieut.-Colonel Ellis was appointed President in place of Colonel Newall, resigned. Captain Kimbell, S.R.V.', and Captain Weston, Taranaki' Rifles, were appointed to fill vacancies in the vice-presidency. It was resolved that standing rule 5 be amended, deleting the clause relating to magazine practice. The subscription for the ensuing year was fixed at 10s, and in the event of a company competing with two teams, the second team's subscription was fixed at ss.
