Taranaki County Council.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday. The # ierk (Mr c - T - MiUs) took t * ecbftir ' there being present Mr H. Obey (retiring £bairman), Crs. Brown, Hopton, Hill, Gray, and Andrews. ELECTION OP CHAIRMAN.
Cr. Andrews moved, and Br. Brown seconded, that Mr H. Obey be reelected Chairman. Both speakers spoke highly of the amount of work done by Mr Obey in the past, and | the motion was carried unanimously. Mr Okejj in thanking the ineuibersy said he would cootimie to do his best in the interests of ratepayers. He had to thank Councillors for the assistance rendered to him during the past year. The Chairman then read a report he had prepared dealing with county affairs, which appears in another column.
Cr. Brown asked if provision was made in the estimates for payment of the £IOO annual payment toward the cost of the new Hemii bridge. It was pointed, out that this would not be required during the current year. Cr. Andrews asked for information regarding the overdraft, which it was explained was on the general account, and could not be reduced faster than, it was being done. The Chairman further stated that £IOOO expended on the NgatorOnui bridge and charged to the Moa Riding account would be repaid when the bridge loan money was received. This wwuW leave the Moa Riding 1 in a very favourable position. SIGNING CHEQUES, ETC.
It was decided that any one member, with the Cnairuiaa, bo authorised to sign cheques. The Chairman and Cr. Hill were appointed'to sign contracts. MEETING DAYS. The first Monday in the month was fixed as the day of ordinary meetings BALANCE-SHEET. The balance-sheet for 1902-3 was adopted as submitted from the auditor. A tag was affixed that a portion of the special rate over the Eltbam~~Road special rating area had not been collected as required by law. It was decided to arrange with the Treasury Department that the demand for interest on this loan should be made on the Egmont Council. CHAIRMAN'S HONORARIUM. Cr. Gray referred to the large amount of work done by the Chairman during the year, and moved an Honorarium of £35 to him. Cr. Hill seconded, and the motion was carried.
