New Railway Offices in Wellington.
WELLINGTON, Nov, 2?. The new railway offices, a large three-storeyed building in Featherston Street, the foundation stone of which was. laid by the Prince of Wales, on his visit to Wellington, were opened this afternoon by the Governor In the presence of a considerable number of invited guests. His Excellency, in tire course of a speech, spoke of the importance of Ihe North Island Main Trunk line, which he thougtht would be open for traffic ere long. He pointed to the development of the tourist traffic, and remarked that, with good hotels and facilities for travel New Zealand would reap from the tourists financial benefits similar to those secured by Switzerland. Sir .Joseph Ward spoke of the progress and improvement of the railway services during the last few years. Though there had been considerable development the Government had in concessions ami allowances given back to users of the railways a sum amounting to £IIO,OOO.
