The Department of Agriculture has forwarded to us the first leaflet of the Agricultural products export. Us figures are rather interesting, showing the (|;uantity find value of the products through the Customs for export from .New Zealand during the month of October last. New Plymouth takes pride of place for butter export, with a total of 5,500 cwt, valued at £24,811, the nearest iival in this respect biting Wellington, with returns of 3792 cwt., valued at £13,175. Patea shipped 2872 cwt., , Auckland 17-16 cwt., and . Gisborne 502cwt, whilst Dunedin and Port Chalmers came close with 502c\vt. Lyttelton only exported 79cwt of butter. Tho total quantity exported by the colony was 15,097. Of cheese but little was shipped, Dunedin and Port Chalmers heading the list with 91cwt. Patea's contribution was 68cwt. The Bluff and Wellington each shipped 44cwt., New Plymouth 21cwt., and Lyttelton 6 cwt. The total returns of the cheese were 299cwt., valued at £798, and last year the month's returns were 802 tons, valued at £2406. Frozen beef was shipped only from lyttelton and Dunedin and Port Chalmers, the former showing expo its of 37cwt., and the latter 478cwt., the colony's total export being 515 cwt., of a value of £607, compured with 6027cwt, valued at £10,109 in October lust year. Frozen mutton shows an increase, the October returns being 91,254 carcases against 76,274 in the corresponding month of 1902. Lyttelton sent 28,541 carcases, Wellington, 21,000, Timaru 21,038, Dunedin and Port Chalmers 12,703, and Gishlorne, Oainaru and Bluff were responsible for the. remainder. Tho largest figures in the export of lamb came as usual from Lyttelton, from which port 7»5'0<5 carcases were shipped, as against 4485 from Timaru, 2279 from Oamaru, 8563 from Dunedin and Port Chalmers and 143 from Invercargill. The colony's total export for the month was 17,816 carcases, valued at £9125, whilst last year the October returns showed 21,642 carcases, valued at £11,045. Very lit- | tie wheat was shipped, but in oats there was a good return, a total of 582,529 bushels being recorded. The value of this was £49,543, and the ports of shipment were Bluff, Tim- j aru, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Port Chalmers and Oainaru in the order named, Invercargill'ss total 'being 255,195 bushels. Comparison shows that the Value of butter exports for the seven months of this year from April to October, fall short of the corresponding months' totals in 1902 by £28,006 ; cheese decreased by £4223 ; frozen beef showed a decrease of £48,463 ; frozen mutton gained £156,173 in carcases, but in legs and pieces decreased £44,265. Frozen lamb showed a distinct advance, the returns of this year showing values to \\ £65:3,470, against £570,067 in tho corresponding period of 1902, or an increase of £83,403. All tho returns quoted above are taken from telegraphic reports, and are subject to revision, but it is satisfactory to notice that the produce exports (for the seven months quoted, with the exception of wheat, oats and potatoes, last year's returns of which are not available, exceed the previous year's figures by nearly £115,000.
