WOOL SALES. CHRISTCHTJRCH, Nov. 19. The first wool sale of the seasom was held to-day. There was a large attendance of buyers. Catalogues comprised 4676 bales and the bulk of the wool came forward in fair condition. Bidding was somewhat irregular, though the sale generally speaking was satisfactory. Trices realised, though marking a district advance on those ruling at last year's opening sale were considerably disappointing in some quarters, but this was probably due to the fact that the latest English reports are reassuring and London sales not due till next week. Halfbreds and merinos were scarcer than usual and "brought keen competition, mainly from the factories. Top prices for merino, lOd per lb. Prices ranged ae follows: —Greasy merino super, 3 Od; medium to good, BJd to 9Jd ; infer/or, 7'd to 8d ; haUVjbJred super, BJd to 9fd ; medium, 7}d to 8 id ; inferior, 6Jd to 7id ; crossbred super 7d to 8d ; medium, ©Jd to 7Jd ; inferior, 5Jd to 6 Jd ; long wool' super, 6Jd to 7id ; inferior, SJ-d to OJd; pieces and bellies, good, 5d to "Jd ; inferior, 3J<i to 4fd ; locks, 3 jd to 4*d. HOMEBUSH SALES. Beceived Nov. 19, 11.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 19. The Homebush sales were dull. Best wethers, 17s 6d to 19s '4d ; good, 16s ; ewes, 16s lOd. Cattle values are lower. Best bullocks, £lO 10s to £l2 15a; good, £9 15s; best cows, £8 ; good, £6 15b ; best beef, 268 per cwt. MINING SHARES CORNuRED. MELBOURNE, Nov. 20. A corner has been worked in the Transit Gold Mining Company Shares by one operator. Prices are quoted at 1/44 buyer, £5 seller All undelivered scrip Is due to one 'buyer as shares outstanding. Instructions were given to buy in against the seller and the price jumped to £5. Since the corner became complete considerable sums have been offeretl by a bear for release, but the buyer demands £2750, being the price given tor 550 shares overdue at £5. HIDBS AND TAILOW. The hides market is very firm for all descriptions excepting kips. The advance recorded last week is not sustained. Calf-skins advanced' id and the tallow market continues dull. Values are low and the shipping enquiry is Moderate.
