Land Board.
The Land Itoaixl met on Tuesday at 9.30 a.m. I'renent —The Commissioner of Crown bands (Mr McKenzie) in chair, Messrs Hntten|)«ry, and McClU'gig'age. Air C'onnett took his sx?at on ai'rival of the 11.10 train.
The Commissioner advised the Board that the price put on section 28, Spots wood settlement, required for road purposes by Messrs llayly should have been £4O instead of £BO. A letter was read from their solicitors, Messrs (iovett and Quilliam, agreeing to the Increased price far the land. It was resolved that the word " forty" be substituted for " thirty" in the minutes of the previous meeting 1 . The Commissioner reported he had seen Mr Brooking' on the subject of timber rights applied for, and it had been urran&i'd that the matter should stand over for the present. The land applied for since last meeting was as under ; Section 3, Block 1, I'ouatu, 894 acres, W, Preston and H. Hammond ; Section 10, Block IX, Waro, 369 acres, T. H. Etherington, l.i.p.—Approved.
The following' transfers were applied for : —Mr J. Maciteynolds to 0. Lawn, section 12, block 2, Opunake ; C. and M. Groom to E. J.
■loblin, section 10, block 16, Ngatimuru ; K. Darke to I'. Darke, halfinterest in section 4, block 10, Upper Waitara ; T, Kymi to 0. J, Haggle, section 171, block 4, Ngatimaiu. McKeynolds' application was approved, provided the Commissioner is satisfied thftt pupei's aw in order ; Urmini's application was approved, bqt conditions of improvement must be fulfilled by Incoming tenant within six months. llyan's application was postponed to nest meeting for information to whether the consideration named in the application include goodwill of Education Reserve adjoining. The transfer of section 18, block 15 from Dedunski to Kemp, and sections 22 and 24, block 2, Upper Waitara, from (J. H. to Win. and S. Madjjwick wvre approved, and the application for transfer oi section 13, block 6, Ngatimaru fiom Wiu. Dint to E. Nops was postponed for further enquiry. It was decided to approve the transfer of section 7; a, ifpper Waitara, front Mildenhall and Stead to Kichard John Nicholls. J as. Rooney had made no promise as required to pay arrears of rent ob sections 25 and 26, block 9, Jsgutimaru. It was postpone consineratioii to 'next meeting. Proposals for expenditure of thirds and fourths were submitted by the following local bodies : Moturoa, Road Hoard £2 4s 6d, Patea East Road Board £lO 19s lid, Wairoa Road Board £{U 4s 4d, Parihaka Board £8 14s Id, Waimate Hoad Doui-d £ls 18s 9d. The proposed expenditure was agr«ed to.
An application was read from Messrs Budge and .Hirst and other settlers in the Omona and Opaku Survey Districts, asking for remission of rent of their sections until they can get better access via Tonguhoe Valley and Tukukuio Road.— Resolved that the Board sympathises with them in their difliculties, and has to inform them that there is no power to grant their request. The lioai'd understands the t'Qad is now fairly passable.
With regard to the complaint of
Mary Ryan that she could not improve her section 19, block 16, Egmoavt, on account of being hampered with a grant of timUor and tramway rights tQ H. Brawn and Co. given by a, former tenant. The Commissioner reported that he had seen the ground, and interviewed Mr Brown, who was to have sent in a note agreeing to waive his right to cut timber, but to retain the use of the land for a tramway* It was decided to write to Mr Brown on the subject, C. S. Wftljcw applied Up a, yearly lease of section 19, Kaponga village, being a pound reserve.
Resolved, that as the reserve may be wanted at any time ,for a public pound the request be not acceded to, and that th 1 1 local body be asked if the reserve shall be vested in that body.
J. Mcßeynolds applied for a new lease of section 12, block 3, Opunake, the original cm<i having been destroyed by fire. The remnants of it wpre produced. It was decided to furnish a new lease upon payment of the fee, £l. E. J. Joblin appiied for a new leasp Of section 11, block 16, Ngatimftru, the original having been lob,. The application was granted subject to payment of £l, and to notice of intention to issue the said lease be.t.g advertised in Stratford newspaper at the expense of applicant.

It was resolved- that the term of repayment be fixed at ten yeurs. W. J. A petition was read from J P Clifford and 31 others that the vacant sections in Tarata be not offered for lease, as tlie ground is used loi sports und recreation, accommo-aa-tKm of stock, etc.
it was resolved that the Board cannot see its way to let the land lie doing nothing, and would be prepared to let the land an a year-to-year tenancy to any one or two ivsrdents at a rental of £6 per annum subject to determination of the land is required.

The report of the ranger on the •application of T. P. Syinonds for a building site at the .vhartramointm* township extension was read. The' application was not accedod to.
The Commissioner reported th*t he h(«l looked into the application of C: Johnson for a portion of section Ifj, block 18, Ngai»«, a forest reserve, for the purpose of road access.
ltesolved, that the Board does not see its way to do anything l further than what it has already done, viz., the offering of 7 acres 1 rood SO perches offered for lease on December 18, 1901 ; and further resolved that if Mr Johnson does not avail himself of this offer within one month the land |je withdrawn from, lease. The following applications for land in the Clatndou settlement were received : Sub. 4, Harry Downs, section 28, block 10, liuiroa. Sub. 1, Joseph Oeddes and M, U!rqmhart, section 23, block 16, Hui-, run.

The applications of Downs, God* des, Urquhart, and Spalding wer* granted. H Downs was granted teavw to withdraw his application for section 28, and select section 11 instead.
