LADY RANFURLY.
)n Saturday afternoon Lady Ran- | urly and her daughter left by the onic for England, bidding farewell o New Zealand's shores and her >eople after a residence of six years, .t is little wonder that the people of Vellington closed their business prenises in order to join in the farewell ;eremony, for never before lias there t>een a more popular hostess at government House. It is not only in the Empire City, however, that Lady Ranfurly is estimated at her true worth, and throughout the colony her departure will I*3 a matter of genuine regret. The Countess has visited almost every part of New Zealand, travelling more than any previous Governor's wife, and she has taken a lively interest in social matters, possessing all the qualities so necessary to make her < a fitting! helpmeet for a most popular Governor. in her farewell remarks on Saturday Lady Hanl'urly assured the Mayor of Wellington that she would always look back on this country with affection no words could express. We trust her recollections ol this colony will he pleasant ones, and feel assured that the same feelwill pervpjdo the breasts of all New Zealanders.
