Untold Wealth in Italy.
That a country so long inhabited, and at one time so densely populated as Italy has been, should contain vast mineral wealth hitherto unknown is almost incredible. Nevertheless 0. rgcppt repprt of the Italian. Ministry of Agriculture, Industry, and Commerce alleges that lignite, petroleum, lead, manganese oxide exist in Central Italy, but have lain undeveloped, owing, in great measure, to lack of enterprise on the part of the inhabitants, combined with the scarcity of capital available to work the deposits. The lamentable effects of a long continued regime, now happily passed away, in stunting the moral and intellectual character of a noble race, will, it is to bo hoped, be speedily undone by the happier mental and political conditions introduced by the monarchy.
