The Panama Republic
Received 15, 9.20 a.m. WASHINGTON, Nov. 14. President Roosevelt, addressing M. Varilla, Minister &t Panama, Bard the United States recognised the n»w Republic, as representing the unimposed expression of people's will. He wished Panama stability and prosperity, 'hoping the new Republic would be a providential investment of nnto'd benefit to civilisation, opening up the highway to universal commerce across an exceptionally favoured territory. The joint Army and Navy Board, at Washington fr'as decided that It is unnecessary to send troops to Panama. 1 is understood the authorities at Washington are surprised that Britain has not yet recognised the Republic of Panama.
