Tired of Life.

Two old men, brothers, nnmed John and William , have eeked out a precarious existence in Dum.-din for some years as jobbing tinsmiths. John went round solicit'ng und delivering orders, whilst William was the bashful, stay-at-home tradesman. Kecently John has been failing and unable to do his usual round. On Friday last he determined to make a determined effort, and Induced William to go with him so as to see the homes of their customers. They tried Roslyn, but the hill was too much for John, so he lay down cm the roadside and prepared to die. A good Samaritan came along, when Xhe following dialogue ensued—John: " Good-toye, Bill, good-bye ; I feel I'm deeing." William : "Dinna dee, Jock, mon, or A'm goosed. .Jock! mon, A'll dee too, iui" come wi' ye." And so the two lay down to die. The Good Samaritan got a cab, .sent them home, and fetched the doctor. The latter ordered John to the hospital, but the two were separated with great difficulty. They possess neither bed nor blanket nor other domestic comfort in their hut ; yet they beg not, groan not, nor seek for charity. There is still soma independence and something higher left in our midst.—Otago Daily Times.
