Wreck of the Ben Avon.
«».. WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. A coastal steamer went cipwn to Cape Palliser this mprning and returned to-night with Captain Dixon and the crew of the Ben Avon, except the mate, who remains by the wreck for the present. The baraue still stands upright, with her sails spread, and idly flapping In the wind. Her holds are full of water, and when visited by the captain in the morning the decks showed signs of buckling. With the first southerly sea—and there are indications of bad weather from that -quarter tonight—the Ben Avon will quickly go to pieces, No inquest was hold on the body of capt. McKinnon, the pilot. The remains were sent South by the Rotoraahana for interment at Port Chalmers.
