Fire Brigade Ball.

Appreciation of the good work done by our local Fire Brigade, and' the certainty that a good time mi iu store for all who attended at thv Town Hall last evening must have Imen the two factors which resulted in the very large attendance at the Fire Brigade Bull, and the great success of the function arrangvd by the strong ladies' committee, consisting of Mesdumcs Bockm., E. M. Smith, F. DeUringer, P. Webster; Hjan, W. Bennett, IJ. O'Biien, Joseph, H. Yates, S. Hill, Allb>voilh, O'DrlScoll, George Cock, Kdniumls, and Clark, Misses Htepliuiißou-Bmith, * Test an, Jacob, Bedford, Nichols, Kirkby, Hopkinson, and Drake.' 'i%e tables were a picture, and for this effect all credit must be given to Mrs ,' IY-rey Smith and Mrs Spencer, who decorated the festive board, the various delicacies being provided by the ladies of New i'lymouUi. Tim children occupied the floor until S).;iO, and enjoyed themselves immensely. But of a whole multitude of charmingly attired juveniles the following wore selected for prises, which were presented by Mrs Dockrill, Mr E. M. Smith, M.H.8., making a few appropriate romarks : Bust fancy costumes, girls, Mist Morgan (N.S.S. Co.), 1 ; Miss Lily Hill (Uoyui Nary), 2. Boys—Master Moverley (Little Lord Fountleroy), und Master McCoy (Sykoa' lngo), JJ. Best dancer—Miss Cathie Bcunott 1, Miss Oliver 2. Capital music was supplied by Mrs I*. Webster, and ; Misses Kirkby, J{. Knott, and Dora Bedfoid. The attendance was a re-coi-d. • The supjKjr provided was excellent. The adults then took the floor, und the music of Mr Bain's orchestru, and with Lieut. Boon, Firemen Wayard Ueale and Mr E. T. Humphries as M.C.'s a very enjoyable evening resulted. The takings were a record. Owing to an unpreeedented rush of telegraphic news we are unable to give as full a report as we should like of such a successful function.
