RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.

OfiPUrAIIJN TO TRAFFIC MANAGER. On Thursday evening after the arrival of tho mail tniin a deputation of representatives appaintfd by the Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce and Tradesman's Association, waited on Mr Whitcombe, District Traffic Manager, in the stationrms'.er'd office relative to the proposed new time table, The deputation was headed by His Worship the Mayor (Mr It, Cock), and amongst: those present were Messrs Dockrill, Tisch, Alexander, Burgess, Ambury, Berry, Carter, Coilip, Wood, Johns, Ewing and F. T, Bellringer. The Mayor introduced the deputation and exphiuei that the two chief matters they wished to urge on Mr Whitcombe were the proposed delay of the afternoon train and the desire, if possibl to have an earlier train in wards in the morning to facilitate settlers from a distance tiacsicting business in New Plymouth and reaching home the sama day.

Mr Wbjtcombe siid there was no serious objection to the train leaving nt 4,25 i.s at present, The reason for the alteration wjs that frequent applicatiocs ware made for delaying tho tram on the cec.sion. of sports, race and othyr meeting', and ordinary travellers whjwfra not aware uf the alteration on these occasions were graatly iccon.venienced. As to gettiDg an earlier train New.Plymouth was better served in that respect than Hawera or Palrner»ton, and s * had no reiscn to complain. Mr Barry u ged that the morning irain should run through from P-itm), as at present ic (ook three days for anyone from therj tj come to town and i rat urn.

Mr Whi'combe said it was quite impossible to carry cut the augg-s'.ion, and be pointed out that under ihe new time table only a day nnd a half would be occupi-d in the trip mentioned. Mr Berry th=m asked that the 7.55 *.m. train from Waifcsro, -should run through to New Plymouth, but Mr Whitcombe could not see hie way to grant this extra service, nor did h - think i"; would pay.

Some ensued over the train timed to retch Stratford at 1.15, and fippareiiily s'opping there, it buiug sug"■siiod that it should run on to .New P/ym'ufh.

M r Whitcorabe stated that this train from Stra'. f jrd to New Plymouth was? for goods only, hut ho promised to give authority to the Strattord stationmaster to issue permits to passengers desiring to trav,-l thereby. After further discussion, Mr Whitcombs said he would raoommsnd the 'Department, not to alter the 4.25 p.m. train. Tho timo-tablo would then be given a trial, and if he found latar on th>it the morning train could he accelerated he would be only too pleased to 'ffdet thn alteration, He was convinced *hat if New Plymouth continued to expand as it bad done further facilities would have to be provided, The M*yor thanked Mr Whitcombe. Tor his courtesy, and the deputation witLdrew. |
