HAWTREY COMEDY COMPANY.

Some interesting remarks upon the play which Mr Hawtrey's talented company is to produca next Thursday are made by The Outlook, which says: -*' The Two Mr Weatherbys " is pleasant, but a puzzle. It is not easy to see what the Sage Society would be at. This society produces foreign plays, and plays of local talent bom, of which r.heaesthetie merits are d iscounted ia the eight of ordinary managers on some tiresome plea about their want of t»s:e—or want of humour. Thus we had Dr. Ibsen's "When the Dead Awaken," also Mr Maugham, whose piece could not have been produced aft the S\ Jatneb', for example. But then comes along Hankin, a noted humourist, a contributor to Ptcmlt, and behold, the soiety s'agea Mr Hankio'u comedy, which, if it has not . ilready appeared in Punch, might there appear at any moment. It is pleasant work conventional, with some original feauree, on an ancient pattern, The Wanganui Chronicle taya-. —lt wc uld be a good thing if all the pieces produced ou the stage afforded so much entertainment as " The Two Mr Weatherbys." The piece, and the* manner in which it was produced, were a treat such as is seldom falls to the 7 lot of theatre-gcers to witnees. It is not of a boisterous nature, but there ia running through it a strong vein of humour and light satire. The play ia a study of human nature, and, to b» erjoyed, must be followed closely. It may be safely said that Mr Hawtrey has got a treasure in "The Two Mr Weatherbys," and one that bids fair to out-rivsl even "A Message Mars," which is paying it a big compliment.
