PER PRESS ASSOCIATION, Wellington, October 27. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated LondoD, 26th inst.:--Mutton market dull and unsettled. There is ' an inclination on the part of holders to force sales. The slackness of demand is due to continued cheapness of beef. Average price to-day: Canterbury brand, from 4d to 4|d; Dunedic, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export (Jo.'s ' brands, 3|d; other North Island brands, s|d. No alteration in lamb market since last week. Beef market dull, i Quotations for New Zealand are only nominal. Hind-quarters, 3|d; fores, 2|d. Butter market firm. Choicest Danish, 120s; New Zealand slow of sale at 102s; choicest first new season's Australian, 108s per cwt. For cheese on spot the market is steady at quotations cabled last week, Buyers are aautious, and the demand is very limited. The hemp market is quiet. The price of good, fair Wellington, on spot, is nominally £32 per ton; October to Dfcember shipments, £3l to £3llos. Cocksfoot market firm. Little business is doing. Tho average price for bright clean Now Zealand seed, weighing 171bs per bushel, on spot, is 50s per cwt.
