VETERANS' ASSOCIATION
A meeting of the TMMDBki Branch of the New Zealand Veterans' Association : was held on Siturday at New Ply-1 mouth, Mr 6, Curtis preeining. Ciptain Standish reported on what wis done at the Conference of delegates from branches, held at Wellington on September 9th and 10th, the City Council having kindly leut a room for' the purpose. Ic was decided that the amount of annual Kubscripiions should ba left to branches to se'.tle for themselves. Certificates of membership and s rvice were decided upon, to be of a ptain but neat design, at a cost of 3s each; but any members desiring a more elaborate dtßiga or a parchment may obtain such by payiDg the additional cost. A deputation waited on bis Excellency the Governor and urged the desirableness of a uniform being supplied to members by the Governin int. Lord B tnfurly, in reply, siid that, while the idea was an attractive one, he doubted whether the Government would do more than provide (at the most) half the cost. The question of military funerals for members was also mentioned, and his Excellency considered that members possessing decorations should receive military honours as a matter of course, and others should al6o be entitled to the same on making representa'ions in the proper quarter. Is wvjuld be too much to expect volunteers to be turning out constantly, however, on the death of membera. The intervisw ended with a vote of thanks to his Excellency for the interest he had always displayed in the Association, and for his efforts in connection with the Veterans' Home. A hearty vo'eof thanks was accorded to Captain Sandish and lieu*. Hamerton for actiDg as delsg/V es at the Conference, and their au' ion while there was approved. The election cf officebearers resulted : —Vice-president, Captain dish; Oommitte?, Captaiu Mace, Messrs J. 0. Divies, R. Wells, F. Oliver, O, Cfcrtis, G. A. Adlam, I. Bayly, and J. Kenyon; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Black; auditor, Captain McKellar. A motion was proposed that the subscription be 2s <sd per annum, in order to induce more to join, but was rejected, and the amount fixed at 53 as formerly. The question of a re-union, to bring all the old veterans together, was brought up, but was deferred till next meeting.
