HENUI BRIDGE.
TENDER ACCEPTED. At the Borough Council meeting on Jbnday night the Works Committee reported recommending the acceptance ■>? Mr Pikett's tender for the erection of the wood and iron bridge over the Henui, as designed by Mr Spencer, 'ind approved by Mr Fulton, 0.8. there wore four others tenders for this plan, and one for a cjnciete arch as designed by Mr T. K. Skinner, but the price for the latter was over £6OOO, or nearly double that of the successful tender, Cr. Woods said he considered it was jwing to Mr Skinner's plans being so incomplete that the tender therefor w.is to high. He moved that a committee consisting of the Mtyor, Ors Ballringer, Brooking, and mover inquire into the matter on Tuesday,— The motion was'.not seconded, Or Carter opposed delaying the matter. Or, Bellringer said that rather than leave the bridge as narrow as the present plans provided for, it would he better to forego some other works, as it was certain an addition would have to be made before long. He moved that Mr Pikett's tender be accepted, and that the Engineer report as to the feasibility of placing footways of six feet on both sides, and tbat he obtain an estimate of cost, of same. The Engineer wished it to be recorded that the bridge was designed by himself, and not by Mr Pulton, who only gave a sketch of the plan. Or Alexander considered that tho Engineer should also have credit for the tenders coming out so i ear his estimate. Or Bellringer was willing to add to bis motion tbat the bridge was designed by Mr Spencer, Berough Engineer, and approved by Mr Fuit'.ii. Tho mjtion was th«u carried. \ It was decided to approve of Messrs H. Smart and F. KyDgdon as sureties for Mr Ptkett.
