THB RARAWA. On Thtusdav folly 560 persons availed themselves of the invitation of the Northern Oorapany to visit their fine. new steamer Rarawa at the breakwater, and Captain Korbory aid his officers certainly deserve the greatest praise for the way in which they treated their visitors. Not only was everyone made to feel welcome on board, and the ship thrown open in every part, bnt afternoon tea waa served in the saloon, the chief steward and stewardess and their assistants being most attentive to the visitors. Everyone speaks in terms of the highest praise of the vessel, her appointments, and of the attention of Captain Horbory and his officers.
With regard to the wreckage tonnd at the Chatham!, the Ohristchurch Press's correspondent at the island* says:—"A large amount of wreckage, very much broken np, and consisting of deck planking, cabin fibtags, eta., apparently belonging to a large ■ iling vessel, has been coming on shore all t">nnd this island since September 2nd. A li'ebaoy, boat's tiller, and part of an oar the name Loeh Long, of Glasgow. I also hear ot wreckage on Pitt Island, intending a portion of a spankor boom. Several persons heard gnns fired on August 22nd." Owing to the Paoarni mot being able to receive batter till Wednesday next in Weiliagtoo, the Upoln will be detained here until Tuesday next, at 11 a.m. j The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Papanui, which was limed to sail from Wellington for London on October 29th, will not sail until two days later. I The turbine steatcer now being built for I the Union Company by Messrs Denny and ' Sons, Dumbarton, is to be delivered on July Slat. The vessel, which will be placed on the Melboome-liMraceeton trade, will be capable of making the trip in 16 hours.
