A very fine meteor was seen to burst >ver M«sland Hill shortly after 11 p.m on Tuesday evening. Mr F. Holds worth, who saw it from the Powderham>street bridge, describes it as a very fine sight. At Stratford on Tuesday, Mr Stanford, S.M., heard a charge against iVirs Bestie Kleming, licensee of the Commercial tlotel, o£ allowing drunkennoss on the premises. Mr E. G. Jullicoe appeared for defendant. The caso was dismissed, the Magistrate holding that ho could not convict unless there was affirmative and positive proof that accused supplied drink knowing the man was drunk. At i'ahiatua on Tuesday, a settler was fined 40a and 10s respectively on two charges of storing explosives without a license. The inspector of explosives said he wanted it known that the Government would in future enforce tha law in regard to this matter.
