IRONSAND.
Mr M, Farmer King, chairman of the Colonial Jron and C jalfielda Construo--ion Company, and Mr Nicolaus, of; Messrs Mercer Nicolaus and Co., mining engineers, are expected to arrive in Wellington from England about the middle of next month. It is their intention to visit bv;ry place in New Zealand where leases or options have been granted to the company in connection with the iroESar.d, iron ore and coal industries. It is proposed to erect works at Parapara (Nelson), New Plymouth and P-»tea. l k he capital the company intends starting operations wi .h is and if it gets o ther concessions (tvhioh include the anticipated construction of a railway from Waitara to the coal treasures $t Mokau) the capital will be iocreised accordingly. Tha leases and options at present held by the company are as t'ol'otfs: - (1) A leas*from the authorities of New Plymouth for the ironsind« of Taranaki extending over ten miles of foreshore: (2) p. base extending over an area of 1000 acres afc Para pirn, nhicb, siccordiflg to an official r; poi-\ in pstimated to contain U'j lees than 100,000,000 tons of ore on tha surface alone; (3) an op 1 ion for the purchase of 527 acres of coalfields at Westporfc; (4) the patent lights of Mr E M. Smith's briquette - making process. This process is for making the ironsand into compound ore for smelting ; another patent is for a, compound pitent fuel (purified «nl for furnaces), Kui a third patent is for increasing the product of the blast furnace by the addition of ironsind. -N.Z.
