BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Works Committee's reports to be presented thia evening recommend: lhafe the Borough Enginesr be authorised to pass the plan of store in Kingstreet submitted by Mr Shaw provided that if the western wall is at any time extended it will be in brick; that the Borough Engineer be authorised to have six copies ( of the electrical lighting epecifications typsd by Miss Baker; that u marble slab suitably inscribed bo placed at the band rotunda; that Mr W. Knyvett'a tender for Brougham-street being the West be accepted (other tenders, Kyngdon and Oo and J. Oolssby); that Mr R. W. Bond be infarmed that the Council is unable to fix the permanent levels in Oourtenaystreet east below Watson-street; that Mr W. R. Rud kin's resignation as Borough Turncock be accepted and Mr T. P. Smith be appointed to tha position ; that tha letter from the Railway Depirtmeat that an overhead bridge would be erect'd st Motley-street provided the Council defrayed the cost be received; that Mr E. Stevenson's application for permission to erect a building in Molesworth-street fur Mr W. Courtney with iron instead of brick walls be granted, the Council being satisfied that tie esse is one of great hardship without; a corresponding benefit to the public ; that Mr F. Palmer's lwtter re Cover-street tunnel be referred to the Borough Engineer to report to the Council meeting on Monday next; that Messrs Sorrenson and Bugley's requeet that the Council sbould enforce bye-law 263 relating to removal of rubbish be received and
they be informed that they have power to enforce it themselves; that the request made by Mr Q. Hale for repairs so footpath in front of the Trocadaro be granted. That Messrs Carder Brothers be informed that provided their contract is signed prior to shipment, the Council will accept the first shipment with the name painted on the pipes, but that all future shipments must have their name pipperly burned in; that the. Engineer be instructed to. metal Egmont-street, from Devon to King. street; that the Borough Eogineer be instrustrd to report as to a suitable site, and as to the cost of erecting the weighbridge thereon; that His Worship the Mayor, Ors. Pellrjoge?. and Brooking b$ a committee to confer with Mr Gledbill as to portions of his land required for a reservoir site, and with Mr Saxtoa as to a pipe line aoross his property; that application be made to the following local bodies for permission to lay water pipes under roads within their coLtrol: Taranaki County Council, Mangorei Ro3d Board, Oarrington Road Board, Henui Road Board, Waiwakaiho Eoad Bjard; that Mr D. Berry be; informed that, provided he pays all expenses in the event of the section not being taken up, the Cp/inpil will' put up a lease by publio auction of the I Reserve at the corner of Brougham and | King-streets at an upset of £2 10s per j foot per annum; that Messrs McWilJiams and Andrews' application for an allowance on the contract be not granted; that Messrs McWil- j Hams and Andrews be allowed £lB fori repairs authorised by his Worship the Mayor to the culvert near the power I station ; that Messrs Briscoe and Co,' be informed that the psnalty of .£22 6s 3J will be deducted from their first payment, and also that the Council! will only accapt the pipes in tho quan-' cities and at the dates mentioned in their contract; that Mr T. W, fisher' be informrd that the Council will give, him an entrance in Linch-street on payment of ,£1; that a depu'iition from ; the Bathing Clubs having waited on the Committee as to the prop wd cere-! mony at the opening of the Baths, th,ey | be requested to submit aprogra.nmoi for the approval of the Committee • that Mr A.'G. Fookes ba informed that the Council cannot go into the question of grading Cimaron-street at present • that his Worship the Mayor and Or, Carter, in conjunction with theBorough Eogineor, go into the question j of completing Qilbert-sfcreefc ana report; that the qustion of what contribution
i will be made to the Henui Roid BwA by the Oouuoil for extraordinary traffic bs deferred ; that consideration of the offar of Mr W. Darling to supply quotation of a steal suspension badge for To Henui be deferred ; that as previously agree!, Mr Hunt, be piid £2 compensation for enor.vchmenr, on his property, and that the B.aough Engineer be authorised to repair the carnage to his fence, etc.; shut the public be notified that all drains must be hid by a licensed drain oonnoctor, and that no etoimwator will be allowed to fl.iw into the new sewera 5 that tb.a report of the Borough Engineer as to the work to be done by the staff during the next fortnight be confirmed; that hnd be acquired at Te Henui for a septic tack as the East End, and that Mr Me3tayer be requested to prepare a plan of what is necessary ; that the Borough Engineer be authorised to procure a boiler {1 COlbs pressure) for heating water at the public baths from Messrs A. and T. Burt as quoted at £145. The Ressrves Committee recommend : That tho Borough Engineer be irstructed to execute the necessary repairs to the raoecourse paddock leased by Mr Oorkill; that about three acres' of the North Paddock Racecourse Re-, serve be ploughed and laid down in! oats,
