FUR PRTtsa ASSOCIATION* Qreymouth, October 8. A young man named John Leitch «as drowned while swimming across tbe Grey river at Nganere ferry. The body was recovered. Later. It appears that in company with two other: Leitch attempted to swim the river, but when half way across he caught hold of a rope, apparently to rest, and when he let go he almost immediately sank I Chas. Wesley, employed at the State coal mine, fell off the viaduct yesterday, breaking three of his ribs and being badly bruised. Chbisichurch, Ootober 8. The body of a woman between 45 and 50 yeirs of age was found in the river Avon this mornin?. There was nothing on the parson to identify her. She was well dressed and bad two rings on one finger. A purse was in her pocket but the<-e was only two tickets in it. Eaquiriee are being j made regnrdibg her identity. Wellington, Ootober 8.
Mrs Malcolm Nicol, wife of the secretary of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons, died suddenly yesterday under circumstances which, in the opinion of the palice, require that an inquest be held.

A vehicle proceeding to Tokomaru on Tuesday, to enable the Land Court judges to return to Gisborne, was overwhelmed by a landslip, aod John Brooking, Registrar of native land, sustained som* injuries.
