EOUITABLE BUILDING SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the above Society was held at the Town Hall on Wednesday eveniDg, Mr E. Dockrill presiding. There were between 30 and 40 members present. The Directors report stated tint the Socie'y had overcome tho difficulties encountered in the first 18 monihs of its existence, and had now fairly entered on a successful career. The profit and loss account showed a credit balance of £2Ol 0s 3d, which had been augmented by the receipt of .£66 for bonus on two appropriation sold on July 10th, The total receipts for the year amounted to .£lßl9 4s 6d, nearly £SOO more than for the previous year. During the year 13 appropriations aggregating £1950 had been made, six by ballot and seven by sale, making a total of £3OOO adv-.nced to shareholders. The redemption payments now amount to £2O a month. The share register showed that 522 shares are now placed, a rssuit largely due to the energy of Mr K, Webster, the secretary. Appreciation was expressed of the services of Mr T. O. Kelsey as auditor. With the exception of £l4 Is for office furniture, the whole of the assets, amounting to nearly £3OOO, are represented by either cash or mortgages. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman congratulated the members on the sound financial -stato of the Society. The motion was, after some discussion, carried,

Messrs E. Dock rill, J. Paton, F. P. Corkill, and S. W. Shaw were re-elected directors, and Mr Kelsey was re-ap-pointed auditor. An honorarium of 21 guineas was voted for distribution amongst the seven directors.

Tenders were received for two appropriations of £l5O each, the highest amount ofl'ered b.sing £67, but the name of the successful applicant did not transpire. After transacting formal business the meeting concluded.
