TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Council met on Monday. Present : Ors. Okey (chairman), McDonald, Hopson, Gray, Hill, Brown, and Andrews.

The Foremen's reports were read. Authority was given to the Moa foreman to employ a horee and cart for two or three days to get broken metal out.

J. Coleeby is to be called on to make gcod the dam&ge done by him to the main road at Mangaraka Hill. The Chairman reported the result of the Committee's interview with the Borough Council as to rebuilding the Henui bridge, and it was decided that a joint request be made to the Governor to make the terms of the agreement an award ia the case. Cr. Andrews drew attention to the weak condition of the Waiongona bridge at Sentry Hill and urged a new site. After hearing the bridge carpenter's views, it was decided that Crs. Andrews, Brown, and Okey be a committee to confer with the bridge carpenter and report on the bridge and site. >

Repairs ware authorised to the Plymouth-road and Hurforcl bridges. The bridge carpenter reported that the Snake bridge had partly collapsed, and he recommended that in the event of a new bridge it should be placed three chains lower down so as to shorten the span by over 50 feet and pave two piers. The question of arranging sites for I the crusher was left to the Chairman I to settle.

In reply to Or. Gray, the Chairman said that the pries asked for the old crushing plant was only half its original cost.

The seal of the Council was ordered to be affixed to the agreement with the Borough Council as to the upkeep of the main road at Fitztoy.

It was decided to call for fresh tenders for earthwork at Ngatoronui owing to J. Tarry stating he had made a mistake in his tender. , W. Ellerm and B. Wright were granted slaughter licenses on usual conditions. Mr Obeli waited on the Council with a request for permission to put a dam across the Ngatoro in connection with an electric light scheme. Cr. McDonald reported that half a day's work was required at the Tariki crossing,

The engine-driver was granted an increrse of Is a day. The Goads Department notified that the question of a further grant for the Junction Road East would be considered on the estimates.

The Lands Department wrote declining responsibility for rates in the Spotswood Settlement, but stated that the rates should be collected from the tenants.

The Clerk said there were no tenants on the roll.

Mr Gray presented a petition from ratepayers, asking for the hills on the South Road to be regraded. The petition is to be forwarded to the member for the district.

Tenders for filling work at Ngatoro were;—Bennett £65 9b 6d (accepted), 0. Pennington £B3 8s 81, Tarry £B4 16s 4d.

Tenders were received for rebuilding the Waipuku bridge,—Deferred for consideration by the Stratford County. Accounts amounting to £445 13s lid were passed, . The Council rose.
