THE LATE ARCHDEACON GOVETT.
Numerous messages of regret and sympathy hare been received by the members of the late Archdeacon's family and a large number of floral ributea were left at the residence yesterday. Many old friends and parishioners took a farewell look on Monday itternoon at the features they knew o well and bad learnt to venerate, This moaning the body will be removed io St. Mary's Church, a guard of Honour being formed by the Voluneere,
Io was decided on Mondny evening io accord the deceased a military funeral—a fittiog tribu v e to the pist ■iorvices of one who braved so many dangers during the Maori troubles. At the mee-.ing of tha Taranaki County Couocil on Monday Cr. Gray feelingly allu'led to the great !om sustained, ai;d moved a vote.of regret and condolence which was carried unanimously ef tor the chairman and some of the Councillors had paid a high tribute 'othesolf-denying and kindly mioisuatießß of the Archdeacon for over half a century in which his constani urn bad been to help m-.nkind. The Chairman was aleo desired to represant the Council at the funeral. I On all sides there are nothing but eulogistic references to the darted clergyman, whose memory will for' many a day be cherished by all classos. To-daj will doubtless see a gathering ■hat will afford »rople testimony of the vem-raHon >.n-3 fßttu.m in which ho was and will he hold. It is hnpsd that parents will prevail on children not to ba pr-flsnfc, as wo understand that they will not be admitted unless in their parents charge.
