An idea of the amount contributed by hospital patients to the cost if their treatment in the institutions may be gained from tables attached to tht annual report of the Inppec'or.Gecerj) of Ho°pitals. At Auckland, for instance, the total expenditure was £16,630, and the patients contributed £4091; at the Wellington Hospital expendi'ure totalled £21,562, of ivhicb the payment by patients amounted to £2260. At Dunedin patients paid £1696 out of a total expenditure of £8845, and Uhristchurch patients paid £927 cut of an expenditure of £10,782 Che figures for some other hospitals arePalmerston North, total expenditure £2267, payments by patients £550; South Wairarapa, total rxpenditure £1568, payments by patients £SO; New Plymouth, total expenditure £3298. payments by patients £659: Greymoutb, total expenditure £3757, payments I y patients £607; Blenheim, total expenditure £2054, payments by patients £379 j Hokitika, total expenditure £2542, payments by patients £298. The total expenditun on all the hospitals was £138,026, of which the patients contributed £19,612. The total receipts, it may be added, were £158,700, of which £55,880 cams from the Government, £44,013 from Hospital Boards and local authorities, £10,017 from voluntary contributions, £1521 from btquests, £5158 from rents, etc., £3063 from " other sources," while £19,432 represented the balances f i. l _ ;
