A well attended meeting of laymen WBS held in St. Mary'd H.all l«sfe evening in respmse to invitations is ned hy the VeDerable Archdeacon Colo to consider the queitioi of giving religious privileges to back block settlers throughout the Archdeaconry of Taranaki. Archdeacon Cole, who presided, spoke at length on the privations of bick block settlers, nnd contended that It.hose who were mors favoured by living in towns and elder settlements should exercise sufficient dnnial to provide func ? to enable a mary to be mainta : ned to m'nister to the back blcck bottlers. The Archdeacon, w! o I. has evidently made himself thoroughly acquainted wi h the condition of things, spoke elcqufliiiy of the heroio work 2 b?ing done by piouew settlers and the claims they had on the people of fch( 8 towns. A general discussion ensue! on a mo'ion proposed by Mr Stanley Smith j and seconded by Mr Webster " That a Lay Helpers Association be formed to 3 promoto the object in view," taken part in by Messrs J. 0. George, Skinner, , Shaw, Webster, Stanley Smith, ID mp--3 eey, Percy Smith, Allsworth, tbo Archdeacon nnd others. It w,ia thought thit £250 a yesr wouH be required j and that this could easily be raised, several in the room expressing their I willingness to give £5 a year. The motion was carried, a committee con- ' listing of the Archdeacon, Messrs. J. 0. George, McKellar, W. H. Skinner, and Percy Smith, being sppointed to consider and r°port to a subsequent meeb- ' icg. , The Benediction brought the meeting to a close, file Morshead Nursery Company still have a fine lot of Burbanks and choice well grown apples for sale. Also silvertrees, Pohufcukawas, Lawsoniana, Macrocarpa, Barbary, and other leading lines of "hedge, shelter, and flowering trees and i plants.
