The proposed exhibition of school work which will bo heid in connection with the opening of the Technical School at Stratford is dtsarving of mora than | passing notice. The value of Technical Schools is not sufficiently recognised by the people generally; but the Taranaki Education Board has for some time recognised the importance of making provision for technical education in Taranaki. At Stratford their B[forts have been so ably seconded by the people, particularly by the Borough Council in regard to site, and the school committee, in many ways, hive helped to push forward the object the Board has in view, that a building, which will be up-to-date in every respect, is nearing competition. No doubt th<; Education Board will open the school with a euit ible ceremony, but in th" meantime the District High School Committee at Stratford, with the view of starting the school fully equipped i in the matter of funds, are proposing! to hold an exhibition of school work. I The idea, is a splendid one and the affuic promisss to ba a very greati Success and bring together Such an exhibition of school work, the like of which has never been seen before ic New Zealand, The committee has sent out a circular in which they solicit the active assistance of all interested in education in holding during the week following Christmas p.n exhibition of specimens of school work in connection with primary, secondary, manual and technical classes, educational and scientific apparatus, collections of objects illustrating geology, mineralogy, botany, and kindred sciences, art studies, home industries and the like. It is hoped that there will be gathered from all par*s of the colony a large and varied collection of objects embracing a very wide fnld of study, and affording to the people of this district, aduh and jnvenile alike, a unique opportunity of acquainting themselves with the whole scone of our educational system. It in intended to award prizes to exhibits of merit for the work of school children, and by these means to encourage amongst a very wide citcle the exercise Qf the inventive and artistic faculties. Whilst the exhibition is open it is intended to arrange for competitions in elocution, singing, and instrumental music, physical exercises, etc. His Excellency the Governor is acting as Patron, the Premier as President, Ministers of the Crown and others as Vice- Presidents. Lord Ranfurly has promised a prize, and numbers of others are following suit. Every school in the colony is invited to send in exhibits- The committee are ako inviting exhibits pertaining to the dairying industry, as well as from firms who cater for school and dairy factory supplies, and hope to open with a display that will do credit, not only to this district, but to the colony generally, and our education system in particular!' A very strong committee has been] appointed and a large number of subcommittees, so that thorough and complete organisation will prevail, so characteristic of Stratford and so essential to command success, Tha latter we believe is aesured, and the exhibiiioa will, we behove, be of Hii most unique and interesting character,
