After the telegraph office closed tha Estimates of the Marine Department, Printing atid Stationery Department, Stamps and Deeds Department, and Education Department passed without alteration. Hon. Saunders, editor of the LytteUon Timer, in reply to a resolution passed by the Bouse declaring a breach of privilege had been committed in publishing an article commenting on confidential matters before the Education Com' mittee. Mr Saunders regretted a breach of privilege had been oommitted. He stated tbat part of the information ia the article had been published by the AW Zealand Timer, and other statements were obtained from Parliamen- \ tary papara distributed by the Government Printer soma time ago. The publisher of the same paper wrote tbat he did not know how the information was obtained. On the motion of Bir Josfph Ward, the letters were referred to the Privileges Committee. Mr Buddo was granted one week'* leave of absence on acoount of illness* and Mr Baume four days leave oa account of urgeht private business. The following Bills were read a lint time:—Water Power (Hall-Jones), Public Wotks Act Amendment (HallJones), Destitute Persons Act Amendment (Hogg), Publio Works Act, 1894* Amendment (Jas, Allen). In reply to questions, Minirierv stated that no steps were tafcyi by the Government to acquire the Wellington-Manawetu Railway; that the Ooverolment hoped to pass a Bill this session dealing with the whole question of sea fisheries; that the , Native Minister would do everything in his power to acquire for the colony oertain historical spote in the North Island; that several purchases already b:en made for the proposed National Maori Museum, and the queai tioo of purchasing some of the many : valuable specimens of Maori art oos- - looted by the late Mr Butterwortb, of > New Plymbuth, was at present under consideration by the Cabinet; that a Bill would be introduced this eeesiou as a preliminary to the establishment of a National Maori Museum in Wellington; that a Land Bill would be brought down in a day or two, aad it , would be got through if members would only talk less and work more. , The House rose at 5.80 pjn.
