STAR CLUB'S SOCIAL.

This annua) social, which took pltoe at the Theatra Royal on Tuesday night, was one of the moat successful and od joyable functions of the season. There was an excellent doer, good music, a large attendance, and a capital supper. During the evening Mr E. Dockrill, President of the Club, congratulated the Olub in wir.niog the Senior Oup >nd Shield, as well as the First Junior Sbi-ld. He also eulogised the services of thb c.ip aiu (Mr L Allan) in leading his team through th« season undefeated, and also in effecting a similar record for the Eep. team. Flattering reference w<s also made to the vicelupttin (Mr A. Humphries) who had, ■»y hi« brilliine performances with the New Z-taland team ia Australia, caused L'aranaki to be fin >us. While giving the S ar Club all credit for winning '.he Oup, Mr Dickiill complimented *>he Tukapa Olub oa their play, and »atd he felt assured that had they been the victors they would have worthily upheld the premier position. Referring to the Challenge Shields, Mr. Dockrill warmly praised Mr and Mrs Dan O'Brien for their kindness in encouraging sport. Mrs. Dockrill presented the Cup to the Clapton ef the Senior team, and Mrs. O'Brien presented the Senior and Junior Shield?, all of which wen suitably acknowledged. Mr. Tregellis sang the lines composed by him as published in the Daily News, the words and masio being duly sppreciated. The decorations cf the supper table were greatly admired, the sobeme of oolours being that favoured by the Olub. Misses Lawson and Capel are to be congratulated on the beautiful effeot they secured ia this artistic work. That the Social was such a sucosss was due to the Ladies' Committee, headed by Mrs Dookrill, and ably assisted by Me*dames Oapel, E. M. Smith, W. Bennett, B, Cock, Ryan, B. Jury, F, Richards, Clarke, S. Hill, Bacon, O'Driscdl, Misses Oapel, Humphries, Nicbol and Hopkisson, who had spared no pains over the supper' and other arrangements. The M's.O. were Messrs Humphries 2, Felix Bellringer, and Y. Qdorge, and the muftio was supplied by Mr. McKionon Bain's orchestra,
