The Johannesburg Chamber of Mines informed the Labour OommisMon that the total Sooth African supply of native labourersat present available is 235,000. The Transvaal mines, which are now absorbing 198,900, would in five years require .368,000, and general South African requirements at that date would absorb 650,000. The Ohsoib r estimated that nearly £3,000,000 in dividends was lost through the inability to fc?ep the present stampers working. The only solution would be the importation of untkiUcd labour.
