The forests on the Rkodope section •t the Macedonian frontier have been Sred by the Turks with the intention of scaring the bands'of revolutionaiies erasing the Servian frontier. The insurgents helped the Macedonians in the fight at Oolje, in the] TJskab district. They brought the Macedonian wounded to Vranji and Nisb, and tendered the use of the Servian hospitals. In the fighting at Lake Bapeha, near Kaitorea. 400 Macedonians were killed and many captured, Thakalaroff, the Macedonian leader, escaped, but 250 troops surrounded the remnant of his force. Twenty trains are preparing to carry the Albanians te Adrisnople. The Asiastic troops there are useless, being unaccustomed to mouatainous countries. t Two battalions of Albanian Ilaveks ere at Salonika and 18 other battalions are expected. .Owing to Legation advices with reference to Uniting Russian and Austrian marines to protect the Embassies, Senator Hay hae notified that if Americans are endangered and the Porte is unable adequately to protect their lives, America will seek permission to land marines.
