Messrs Clapham Brothers, of patent horaeholdes tame, held a conference of their agents and canvassers at Ashhurst on Wednesday and Thursday, and subsequently entertained them at a dinner. The Hon. Sir W. J. Steward has given notice to ask the Native Minister whether he will take steps 'o secure for the proposed National Maori Museum some of the many valuable speoimens of Maori art, and unique Maori curios colleoted by the late Mr Butter worth, of New Plyand now the property of his legal representatives.

New South Wales defeated Viotoria in all three matches for the inter-State baseball championship. At a meeting of the Hawkes* Bay A. and P. Society on Friday, it was decided, owing to the outbreak of anthrax, to urge the members of the district to arrange for concerted action by members of Parliament In getting the Government to prohibit the importation of infected bone dust until the sterilising works are completed, and to proclaim the lands on which outbreaks have occurred as " infected lands." It was pointed out that the same boat which brought bonedust from Calcutta last year, was due in Auckland to-day, hence the need for immediate action. A practicsl illustration of the utility of Claphatn's Patent Horse Stopper in pre- | venting a horso frem bolting when attached to a vehicle was given in the vioinity of the Masterton Hospital on Monday afternoon. A horse harnassed to a new dog cart had been left standing on the To Ore Ore road, when it took fright at a number of cattle passing. The horse made frantic efforts to bolt, but was held absolutely powerless to do so by the wheel attachment. A person who witnessed the incident informs the " Masterton Times " that the vehiole was oertainly saved from destroctlon by the patent referred to, for had the horse got away on the Te Ore Ore-road, the vehiele would alaiost inevitably have been smashed up. —Advt.
