RAHOTU.
(From our Own Oorbesfosdent.) I'here was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Hall Committee, and a considerable amount of interest was taken in the proceedings. Mrs Dougherty, who presided, proposed "that seeirg the original trustees, Messrs Chapmen, McGJoin, and Anderson, had either resigned or left, the district, new trustees be elected, viz., Messrs Rothery, Smith, and Jeffries," which proposal was unanimously agreed to. The meeting then proceeded to elect a new committee for the ensuing year. Mrs Dougherty declined to stand again as she hid Ik en three years member of the committee and for four years chairwoman, and the thought that as " new brooms swei p clean " it was time some others took a hand, Mr Long, who for some years had proved a most useful member of the committee, also retired, The votiDg was somewhat as follows! Messrs E, Dougherty 25, G. Barr-Brown 20, D. Maroney 30, J. Baiker 17, S. Kyley 17, H. Nuttall 17, H. Mills 11. Mr Dougherty having declined the honour of being chairrrun, Mr G. Barr-Brown was duly elected. It is a esse now with the new committee of " to be or not to ha," Some are eager for a new hall to keep pace with otler districts. Some, like tne writer, havitg wearily waded through the sturm and drang period would give the Scotch advice to " ca canny," or in the never-to-be-forgotton words of the old Scotch b.dlad, when the lassio begged her sweetheart for a pair of new shoes was philosophically advieed to " cloofc the auld, the new is dfar." With a row front (in which might be placed a naw stage) any company who thcught of looking up Rahotu could be vtry well accommodated. Now that, after so much expenditure of time, thought, and money the hall is free, the piano oil but paid for, a good fence around the ground, with good side asd supper room, it seems almost a pity to plunge into fresh and heavy expense 3, especially as it has been well ventilated, given a good coat of paint ioside and out, a new front to form a new stage, with dressing room at either end, the hall is good enough for ten years, end is the only hall on the coast which v>i!l give £is to £ZQ to v. ■ uarcy. 3 The best medicine known is Sander & Sons' Eucalypti ExiiuoT.
