When the steam r was leaving Lyttelton tho fireman lodged a complaint with the Customs officer that tho ship was unseaworthy, and notice was sent to Timuru where the Government Marine Surveyor madi a survey of the ballast tanks which were complained of as leaking and as too weak to support the ship i f she struck a reef and a hale was raadi under the tanks.
