August 16. 1 The rain kept up for 15 hours, but ceased to-dayA It was badly needed, 1 the winter having been unusually dry. I Cahterton, August 15. The rivers are bank high, and the lowlands are submerged. The tawn ! drains were inadequate to carry eft the , storm water, which entered ssveral buildings, and filled the Ma?quis Eoiel 1 cellar. Wellington, August 15. The weather continues very boisterous, and the shipping is interfered with. , Napier, August 15. ( fleivy and continuous raiti has f i!L n ' for 30 hours and all the rivers are , rising. Much of the low latd will ba , under water by morning. The rivers crossing the South Road ! are exceptionally high, the Stony River being within two feet of the bridge, j All the streams in the Stratford dis- * trict are very t,igh.
