FIRE ON A BARQUE.
EXPLOSIVES JETTISONED. VESSEL BEACHED. HB FBBBS ASSOCIATION. Stdsby, August U. The four-masted birque Dunmore, whioh arrived from London on Sunday, took fire at 1 o'clock this morning off Watson's Bay. The fire broke oat with a rapidity which almost paralysed the watchman. Tugs were quickly in attendance and began to pump water into the vessel. The outbreak is believed to be amongst turpentine, tar, and other inflammable substances.
As the fire gained ground rapidly the whole consignment of explosives was jettisoned. Efforts to cope with the fin failed, and, as the vaasel was down by the head, it was decided at 4 o'clock'to beach her to prevent her sinking. She was towed to Rose Bay and put on the ground.
i At 7.20 a.m. the fire was still boraiog, and the vessel will have to bo entirely flooded before it oan be extinguished. Latbr. At 2 o'clock the Dunmore fire was practically in hand, the vessel beiog rapidly pumped fuU of water. Received 15, 1.21 a.m. Sydhby, August 14. The cargo was valued at £26,000, the bulk bsing covered by insurances, whioh are held in the priuripal offioes. The South British has a linr, but the amount bas not transpired.
