ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
HH PBBBS ASSOOIAHON Wellington, August 13. A verdict of suicide was returned in the case of Biohard Brasriogton, accountant, who was found in a dying state on Monday. Charles Thomas Batkin, formerly Assistant Controller and AuditorGeneral, shot himself with a revolver this evening and died shortly after. Deceased had been seriously ill for Borne months from a painful malady. He had retired from the Oivil Service on a pension and was in his 81st year. Auckland, August 13. Harry Thornton, a recent arrival in the colony, who attempted to commit suicide by cutting bis throat at Papakura on Tuesday, was brought to Auckland hospital. Last night he jumped frcm a window, death being instantaneous. TiMAEO, August 13. A body found in the harbour has been identified as that of Wm. McEwan, on* of the crew of the barque Kildalton. Dunkdin, August 13. # A little girl named May Taylor, living with her parents at Alexandra, succumbed to i> juries sustained by her olothes catching fire.
